In the last decade, the market has adopted use of electronic measurement devices, so-called smart meters. Residential smart meters are currently intended to register the aggregate household energy consumption and to communicate measured quantities to the utility for billing purposes.In general, shunt resistor is a favorite choice for current measurement because of its good linearity, immunity against magnetic fields, and low cost. The low prices of pulse transformers, opto-couplers, and digital isolators stimulate use of an isolated one-phase power meter module, integrated with shunt resistor for current measurement, in each phase of a poly-phase electronic power meter.This design reference manual describes a hardware platform and application firmware of a three-phase electronic power meter with shunt resistors with peak combined computing power of 190 Dhrystone MIPS (Millions of instructions per second)
